Huaqi Zixun as a promoter of the association is an enterprise of Zhongguancun, and it represents the growing private enterprise of Zhongguancun. Sina interviewed with Feng Jun the president of Huaqi Zixun, and Liu Zhiqiang the general manager of Aigo chess club.
Sina: Why Huaqi initiation of Alxa SEE foundation this time?
Liu Zhiqiang , General Manager of Aigo chess club: I think there are several reasons. First, three respects are used to appraised the civilization of a society, including government organs, media's supervision and public service. When the society is developed into certain stage, the thing should appear will take place at the stage, which is an objective law. And no matter the enterprise or individual is responsible for the society we live in, including the social responsibility to the nature, and it is a kind of human’s responsibility which is beyond the concept of entrepreneur, scholar or government. Except Huaqi or other enterprise, everyone as a person in the earth has the minimum responsibility to safeguard our living environment, and must care about our homeland. Anyone with conscience and quality should pay attention to the environmental problems, and start from oneself. The power may be negligible, but if everybody and each enterprise can contribute a little, the power will become as great as to change a lot. Huaqi just do a deed it should do like other enterprises, and we believe, this grand meeting is very hurry, otherwise there must be more enterprises will join in.
Second, the sandstorm in Beijing has been known, especially in these recent years, it has become a scenery of Beijing. The life of all people has already been seriously influenced, and the image in the world of China is damaged too. While chatting with a lot of foreign friends, we feel the most famous in Beijing is the Olympic Games and sandstorm these two years. It is time that we had to manage this. I clearly remembered that once going to Hebei by car to have a meeting, when passing by somewhere, I saw several shocking big characters on the mountain nearby: return land for farming to forestry, safeguard Beijing and Tianjin. Even people beyond Beijing have already made contribution to improve the environment of Beijing, so I think every person or enterprise in Beijing are more duty-bound.
Third, the corporate culture of Huaqi is based on six win ideas, of which an important component the society is included. We think any kind of activity includes the cooperation of such six aspects as "masses, agent, staff, company, supplier, and society ", none of which can be absent to obtain the chances of realization and development of rational interests together. For example, we keep on planting tree every year, and donated 1 million Yuan to SARS last year, and all the activities are based on the ideas the company.
Last, it is the most important, and without this it is impossible for us to know the news and I can not participate in this activity on behalf of Huaqi. Thank the president of Sina Web Wang Yan who tell me about this activities. It is his words that make Huaqi take the action.
Sina: Why does the president Jun Feng not participate in the conference this time?
Liu Zhiqiang , General Manager of Aigo chess club: He wishes very much to participate in this activity by oneself, but it is too late for us to know this, and it is the very important period for the internationalization of Huaqi, and president Feng are exploring foreign market abroad. He really has no enough time to come back and participate in, and he specially telephoned me and orders me to participate in this activity actively, and strive to do more contribution to the conference. And I believe he is sure to propagate this great meeting in a more cost-effective manner abroad, to improve the influence of SEE association.
Sina: What do you feel abut this trip in Alxa?
Liu Zhiqiang,General Manager of Aigo chess club: I remember Kant said that two things can shake people's soul deeply in the world, one is our lofty ethical criterion in the heart, and the other is the magnificent starry sky on the top of the head. During the trip in Alxa this time, I coincided with both these two kinds of shock.
I looked up at the starry sky in the desert at night, and experienced the beautiful hope from heart of Chinese entrepreneurs at the same time. The two days are deeply impressed on me, and I am shaken deeply.
Sina: I am curious about this, for you are general manager of Aigo chess club, why do Huaqi involve in chess which has nothing to do with IT the core business of it?
Liu Zhiqiang,General Manager of Aigo chess club: Aiming to contribute for the society actively and participate in the construction of public service, Huaqi supports the chess team of Beijing and engages in the popularization of the undertaking of chess. We established the Aigo chess team together with the chess academy of Beijing. In April of 2003,the world champion and President of Beijing Chess Academy Xie Jun leaded the general coach of national chess team and the international grandmaster Ye Jiangchuan , and the young woman champion Zhao Xue and Xu YuanYuan of group , in world ,etc to join in this team one after another. In September, the Aigo got the first prize of national chess group championship team on behalf of Beijing team, and it was the first time that Beijing team obtained the team title since built in 1978. We don’t know why, for the players are the same, may it is the spiritual strength. However, as a noncommercial activity, the chess is just for the public service. Our idea is very simple: "The model of thinking of the chess is what Chinese lack, I want to popularize it.” However, it seems a bit out of reach to popularize a certain model of thinking, and Feng Jun determines to “start from oneself first". He describes the corporate culture of the Huaqi as “the spirit of the chess”. The so-called "all people playing chess” is just let the staff understand the corporate culture, and reach the goal that "with the same desire from boss to employee". Feng Jun’s saying is that anything done 7 times will form a habit, and 21 times will become the individual character. And there is also a deduction: Culture is an unwritten regulation, and the unwritten regulation is the habit formed while as a child, which is called rule of the game. In brief, culture is just habit –so it not hard to understand why he require every staff of Huaqi to learn chess.
The thought of the chess become the common idea of the whole company of Huaqi. The chess has unique rule of culture, for example the pawn can rise and change to realize its ideal by persisting; The “horse” has no concept of barrier of horse leg, and it neither barrier its own horse leg nor the rival's, but to advocate cooperation and fair competition. These are the chess spirit regarded as the corporate culture by Huaqi, and it can improve our plan and flexibility in the life and work, and mould the outstanding quality such as persistence and wit.
1100 of the staff of Huaqi in China all accept the training of chess. The weekly training is two hours each time, and divided into elementary class, junior class and senior class, and the world champion from Beijing chess academy will be invited to play chess with the skilled one. Except training, the monthly chess game is hold, with the attending of staff, and it is obligatory for the middle level administrators. Generous prizes are provided to encourage the top eight players adopting the elimination system. All people playing all chess, sounding like the Arabian Nights in any enterprise, but the staff of Huaqi treat this game very serious.
It seems very important for the Chinese enterprises facing international competition after WTO to learn about the culture background, mode and way of thinking. Especially for the national enterprise planning to go abroad and expand overseas market, it is a kind of effective method to find out about overseas market and competitive environment through study from their culture, especially the cultural activities with sports intension such as chess. The rule of chess has offered a brand-new thinking way for the internationalization of national enterprises.
Sina: As to this environmental protection activity, what plans you have next?
Liu Zhiqiang , General Manager of Aigo chess club: As initiating unit of directors, we will go all out to do the job well of our own duty. Environmental protection is a great project, it has to deal with a lot of matters, and we will set about from different aspects. First, the work of association, we will participate in the work arranged by the association actively, and finish it heartily. Secondly, we will strengthen the factor of environmental protection in the enterprises propagation and try to cause the attention of more friends and even the whole people. For another, pay more attention to the problems of environmental protection in the design, production of our enterprise, such as use of the degradable materials, etc, and integrate environmental protection with our daily life and work. Moreover, improve the environmental consciousness of the employees, and etc. In a word, we should not ignore the little matters, and everything should be well done.
