Mr. Chen Feng, President of Hainan Airlines Co. Ltd, delivered a speech titled "Traditional Culture and Modern Business Administration of China" at SEE forum jointly held by the Association and Tianxiagu Entrepreneur Culture Research Institute in Wansheng Shuyuan, Beijing on October 7, 2004. Mr. Yang Peng, Chief of the Research Institute later made some comments on the speech.
Mr. Chen Feng thought that China was experiencing a changeable and lucky era, during which traditional culture and modern civilization lived in perfect harmony. How to seize good fortune and make contributions to the country and people’s welfare was a question. Entrepreneurs—the leader of time—had to think over.
The development of private enterprises is summarized into three stages: 1, Supplement for shortage. At the early stage of reform, private enterprises produced what were short of supply in the market and society. 2, Earlier and now, owing to some differences between different policy systems, private enterprises, to some extent, experienced prosperity and grew both in size and in quality. 3, A brand new era for private enterprises was coming. All private enterprises should head for modernization and internationalization, and only a thorough change of entrepreneurs could help enterprises thoroughly remold themselves.
As to the management of modern enterprises, Mr. Chen Feng opined that management was managing people, and managing people was managing people’s thoughts. This had always been the supreme realm of management both in the east and in the west. Generally speaking, world management revolved around nothing more than three aspects: money, system, and culture. Management by culture was to manage the profound human nature. The more profound human nature explored, the more energy would be developed, even exceeding that of the human’s natural attribute. It is the same with an enterprise, a country and a nationality.
